My First Print!

Mon Apr 6, 2009, 9:48 AM
COMMISSION INFO: [link]

Well, seems like it's about time I opened up the print account... Especially since it's free. Jeez I'm so slooowww!

This one's an oldie but goodie and people seem to like it, so I figured it couldn't go wrong. The only problem is that it's pretty small since I didn't make the original resolution very high... But oh well.

Check it out here: [link]

In other news, I only have like 4 weeks left of school for the semester? What? SWEET.

OPEN for Commissions!

Tue Mar 31, 2009, 7:42 PM
I've been thinking of doing this for a long time, so I'm finally putting my plan into effect... Especially since it's the home stretch of the semester, only five weeks left.

And lucky you guys-- Since I'm just starting out and new with this commission thing, I've decided to currently mark up some of my more expensive prices at discount... Discount! Believe it!

Here's what I've got to offer:

FULL BODY LINES
What you get: A full-body pencil sketch of your character!
Default price: $5.00
About: I will combine multiple characters into one picture! ($9.00 for two, $14.00 for three, etc.)

BLACK AND WHITE BUST
What you get: A pencil or digital bust of your character, with some shading!
Default price: $5.00
About: I'll probably use whichever medium seems best to me unless specified. Again, I also do multiple characters!

COLOR BUST
What you get: A bust of your character, digitally painted and textured, with background color/texture to boot!
Default price: $15.00
About: Much nicer than the simple bust. Multiple characters available.

FULL BODY COLOR
What you get: A digitally or hand-colored full-body illustration of your character, with or without some simple background ornaments.
Default price: $20.00
About: It's like the bust on crack. If you request multiple characters, I'll subtract $5 from the total!

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW...!
1. How do I get started, and how do I pay?
Note me! After that, I recommend PAYPAL because of the secure transactions, but I'll also take money orders by mail if you don't have access or trust that sort of thing. No sweat.
2. Will there be any variation regarding prices?
Default prices are just that - default. I would only suggest a different price for a piece if I felt that the amount of work or complexity of the piece was worth more than the baseline.
3. Can I haggle with you?
Sure! Make me an offer.
4. Should I give you references to work off of?
By all means, if at all possible. If not, then make sure you're clear about what you want.
5. Is there any subject matter you're not willing to do?
If you want something over the PG-13 limit, it's fine as long as you can prove you're not ridonk young.
6. Can I make special requests, specifications or suggestions?
Feel free. If it's in my power to do it, I'll do it.
7. How involved can I get with the process?
I'll probably show you some of the preliminary work on some of the bigger and more important projects, just to make sure it passes an approval check, but the easiest way to avoid a need to do this is to tell me what you want if you're looking for something really specific. If not, I'm fine going with my instincts.
8. How long is this likely to take?
I'll need full payment before starting to make sure I don't get jipped, so obviously commissions that have been paid off will get priority. Of course, complicated projects will take longer. I work on things until I'm satisfied with them, although if a piece is urgent I'll definitely try to accommodate.
9. Can I commission something that isn't on this list?
Definitely. It can and has been done. Note me.

Composition

Thu Sep 25, 2008, 8:04 AM
I've come to terms with the fact that the weakest aspect of my work is my sense of composition.

...Which is extremely important. I know I'm alright when it comes down to most technical stuff, but it doesn't matter if there is something terribly wrong with the picture arrangement.

To all of my friends and artists (and friend-artists) with know-how:

How can I improve this?

  • Listening to: P is for Panda
  • Reading: The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat
  • Watching: Cat Soup
  • Playing: With Myself (JUST KIDDING kindof)
  • Eating: delicious pecan-flake cereal

Fantastic Pose Ref. Site

Fri Jul 18, 2008, 7:18 PM
Visit PoseManiacs.com: [link]

They have nearly every pose you could want for your reference pictures!

The models are 3D, so when looking at a certain pose you like, it's even possible to rotate the image along a 360-degree horizontal radius to view it from all angles.

One of my favorite parts about this is that the models are skinless, so you're allowed to see the complex bone and muscular systems beneath. I think it's an important key to accuracy.

Apart from static viewing images, it also has a feature called "30-second drawing", which switches images every 30 seconds (or whatever time interval you choose), forcing you to learn how to assess shapes and forms more quickly and render them faster. You can actually find examples of this exercise on YouTube, and it's pretty interesting to watch. Try it out.

My only complaint is that I can't find a site with a reliable cache of quality stock photo models for me to be inspired from, especially in terms of headshots and facial-structure. But that's a totally separate problem and has nothing to do with posemaniacs.

Even if you draw only occasionally, I think you'll find this a great help.

Enjoy!

Dimes in the Blue Pig

Fri Jul 4, 2008, 12:53 PM
It's the Fourth of July.

Prom and graduation have come and gone.

Hurray!

After tomorrow, a belated graduation thing, it'll be time to finally kick back and have some fun. (Well... Also to apply to video game stores, but y'know.)

So expect some new stuff once I finally have Adobe Suite on my computer and can get it all up.
